– 1 can of black beans, drained and rinsed

– 1 cup of cooked quinoa

– 1/2 cup of breadcrumbs

– 1/4 cup of finely chopped onion

– 2 cloves of garlic, minced

– 2 tablespoons of tomato paste

– 1 tablespoon of soy sauce

– 1 teaspoon of ground cumin

– 1/2 teaspoon of smoked paprika

– 1/4 teaspoon of cayenne pepper (optional, for heat)

– Salt and black pepper, to taste

– Olive oil, for cooking

– Burger buns

– Optional toppings: lettuce, tomato, onion, avocado, vegan mayo


1. In a large bowl, mash the black beans until they are mostly smooth, but still chunky. You can use a fork or a potato masher.

2. Add the cooked quinoa, breadcrumbs, onion, garlic, tomato paste, soy sauce, cumin, smoked paprika, cayenne pepper (if using), salt, and black pepper to the bowl. Mix until well combined.

3. Shape the mixture into patties, about 3/4 inch thick. You should get around 4-6 patties, depending on the size.

4. Heat some olive oil in a large skillet over medium heat. Cook the patties for about 4-5 minutes on each side, or until crispy and browned.

5. Toast the burger buns if desired.
